Late Spring Update
What do you do in the outdoors in June, three month out from bird season? Well, here in Reno there is lots to do. The dry fly fishing on the Truckee River is really starting to come on now. Paolo has been knocking fish dead (not literally) on the Truckee and fly fisherman and women are out in full force.
I fished with Paolo on Sunday, but I obviously jinxed us, because we only caught a few fish between the two of us.
I have been getting up EARLY and running the dogs, keeping both them and me in shape. We have been getting tons of warm rain in Nevada during the last two weeks which means that it is still very green here, for the desert, and the native grass is growing taller than I have ever seen it. That growth should really help the survival rate of the chicks that are, and will continue to be hatching over the course of the next month. For a bird hunting nut like me, that makes me happy. At this point I am ready to see nothing but sunny skies, but it sounds like we are looking at more warm thunderstorm for the next week.
I just got a new trail camera, so I am excited to get that out and set up this weekend so that I can get pictures of bucks as their antlers are growing. I did not draw a local tag, but it will be fun to get some picture none the less. I did however get lucky and draw a deer tag, but it is in a unit 5 hours away, so I will not be making very many trips over there scouting. I already have a pretty good idea where I want to hunt as I have been in that area before bird hunting.
It was a good year for the Glacier Glove staff in regards to drawing deer tags. Many of us drew tags and will get the opportunity to spend even more time out doing what we love; hunting in the wilderness.
